Pain constant is constant

The pain may or may not be severe. The pain may vary in intensity throughout the day. The pain may be worsened by stimulus e.g. biting down and tends to linger even when the stimulus is removed. 

Pain is intermittent

The pain comes is usually not severe and is triggered by stimulus e.g. cold/hot/sweats/biting. The pain usually disappears instantly once the stimulus is removed.
